“Politicians, If you want to lead by example, part of the game is being brutally honest about what is productive and real versus politically correct, immaterial and fear-based. Politics is calling for warriors. Step up and tell the truth with civility; people are starving for it.” TMS from Myspace Archives

3/9/11         Got transparency?
Gov. Peter Shumlin is defending his decision to take a Caribbean vacation —
without his security detail — and not disclose the destination until he got back. The
first-term Democrat’s whereabouts became the subject of speculation after staff
members said they either did not know where he was or would not make it public.
He left last Thursday, spent several days on the island of Dominica and returned
Tuesday night. In his absence, a storm dumped two feet of snow on Vermont,
forcing the closing of schools and most state government offices. On Wednesday,
the tanned governor said he had no regrets about keeping the destination secret or
about not returning to lead the state’s storm response. (AP/NYTImes.com)

3/2/11            The beginning of the unraveling- let us call it real Challenge 1: You
cannot be pro-jobs and anti-business.

•Shumlin said he urged Obama to change course for the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission and not allow Vermont Yankee to put the Vernon plant in “Safstor” that
might allow cleanup of the plant to take up to 60 years. A 2002 agreement between
the state and Vermont Yankee allows for Safstor but Shumlin said Safstor was not
part of the discussions in 2002. Why do discussions carry more weight than a
signed legal agreement? “Your word is your bond in Vermont,” Shumlin said,
apparently preferring spoken word to written word, at least in this case.(Vt Buzz)

1/27/11  Letter to Editor

As Vermont's Republican State Auditor, I want to see the Shumlin Administration
succeed in preserving our state's financial stability. It is no accident that Vermont
was voted one of the best managed states in the country positioned to address this
crisis. We must remain strategic and unemotional, as a team, to navigate through
this continuing difficulty. Thanks to all of  you citizens, in advance, for your support of
the current leadership in Montpelier.
