This New Year's Eve, State Auditor Tom Salmon CPA will be teaming up with Bennington
County Sheriff Chad Schmidt to help support the Sheriff's safe drive-DUI prevention
program. Salmon will be one of the van drivers, and has learned his lesson.
Salmon was arrested for DUI in November 2009, pled guilty, lost his license,completed his
requirements including Project Crash, and returned to safe driving. Salmon has not had a
drink since completing project Crash last January. He is sticking to his 1 year "no-use "
plan he made with his counterparts that January weekend under the direction of the
Vermont Department of Health.
"New Year's Eve (or any special night) should be a night of celebration and positive, future
expectations. Don't let a DUI turn a good night sour. If you get behind the wheel after you
have been drinking, it will not go well.. Take it from me- You have no idea how much pain
and difficulty this will cause you and your family ....Again, enjoy the night..Happy New
Year..and please don't drink and drive." TMS

October 29, 2010 "You know I'm the auditor, right?" (I am not going to run away or need
handcuffs). Difficulty is temporary and failure is never fatal. This is not cancer, a sick kid or
a dying loved one.... I live by the creed that you do your best and if you make a mistake,
promptly admit it. I faced this difficulty swiftly and responsibly; admission of mistake, paid
the fine, paid the lawyer, lost the license, insurance cost up, went to Crash, have stayed on
the 1 yr counseling and no use plan ever since. ..I hope Vermonters will understand on
Tuesday.. As For my Progressive Party friends: either way, I am not going to run away.
